No more training wheels

One of the most rewarding events in a parents life is running beside your child when they ride their bike for the first time without training wheels! It is by far, one of the most precious things I have done. Getting to that point has taken some time. Reece and Gavin were both interested in riding a bike without training wheels late last summer. So, I took the training wheels off. Trying to coordinate 2 boys learning at the same time just didn't work out. The interest began again a couple weeks ago when the weather broke. Again, Reece and Gavin aren't very patient and they expect to be X-treme Bmx Bikers immediately. But they were too focused on "pedaling". I decided to take off their pedals, so they didn't have to worry about that. We practiced for a day "gliding" down the driveway, down the sidewalk, ect. Once they learned the art of balancing, I put the pedals back on. And off they went!! We are still in the process of learning, but every ride they are getting better! Today we are practicing from a stand still start. You hear them say," glide, glide, peddle." Just for a saftey measure, I will make sure we practice breaking today as well!!

So don't waste anytime. If you are teaching your child to ride the bike, take the peddles off first!
Off to bike!

Love it! I've never heard of taking the pedals off- what a good idea! Please come over and teach my boy. Please. Please? :)
